Parent Testimonials

The best insight into what Bedrock Play does and how it impacts kids is to hear it from the parents of our students:

“I feel incredibly lucky that we found Bedrock Play. I can’t imagine taking that leap to homeschooling without having Bedrock Play in place first. It is a highlight for my son every week and the boost I need as a busy parent. The programming is high quality and provides something sorely needed in our modern setting–the chance to play.

The team at Bedrock Play have seen my kids grow from toddlers/preschoolers to grade school students. It’s wonderful to have the consistency of seeing the same teachers leading the program year after year–– through rain, sunshine, warm weather & snow.

We’ve become friends with many families that are like minded in the desire to raise their children with less busyness, screen presence and more time in nature. I love that the 7-12 group is still encouraged to use their imaginations, build physical & social skills, all while experiencing the quiet and calm environment of the forest.” - Rachel Withers

“Bedrock Play is the only program my kids have continued nonstop since we started homeschooling, and since so many families feel the same way there has been great continuity and opportunities for real camaraderie.  It has also been a source of community for the parents since we have formed learning groups, book clubs, and field trip squads around the friendships fostered in Bedrock Play.”

“I wish every elementary age child got the chance to spend a day every week in the woods like mine do!” - Jenna Breitbarth-Guidi

“Our son is on the autism spectrum and Bedrock Play has unquestionably been the best, most challenging therapy experience he has had. We have had many tough days in the past four years, but he has overcome certain sensory issues, moved past OCD tendencies, worked through anxiety, challenged gross motor skills, and struggled to navigate an unstructured social environment - all through free play in the woods. He has learned that he can live through discomfort and has figured out some strategies for surviving harder moments. He has also formed relationships with a community of kids who accept and include him in their play, which can be fairly rare for a kid on the spectrum.

I recommend a Bedrock Play experience for any family. Research undeniably shows that we as people need to be outside regularly to remain healthy and happy, and kids especially benefit from lots of space to wiggle and jump, crush and create, wonder, imagine, and play. From my perspective, Bedrock Play offers a magical space where these activities are encouraged, while also organically providing opportunities for learning and practicing many valuable life skills that everyone needs.” - Anonymous Parent

“Bedrock Play allowed my daughter to come out of her shell and build confidence. Her imagination was often invigorated by others when she came home from a day at Bedrock Play. There have been a couple of instances when she had to work out small conflicts among her peers and they always ended positively. And, she loved playing outside now - even ice, mud, rain, heat and cold became assets to her creativity rather than excuses to avoid the outdoors.

If you want more outdoor time for your kids, this program is a no-brainer.” - Amanda

“Sending our children to Bedrock Play has helped further their love of nature, built their resilience and also allowed us to form community among other like-minded families. We're so grateful for all of the amazing opportunities that Bedrock Play has provided for our family.

Beth provides such a warm and welcoming environment that allows kids to feel safe and at home. Her calm and caring demeanor has helped both of my children to feel comfortable when fear and anxiety has crept in. We love how much she allows children the space to explore, experiment and take risks while also keeping them safe.

We are often raving about and recommending Bedrock Play to other families! It's hard not to want to share the magic of free play in the woods with everyone we know. We have endless good things to say!” - Carla Janosik

“I’ve seen my kids thrive and develop in so many ways as a direct result of their experiences outdoors. Learning how to capitalize on all natural phenomena (new play opportunities!) has been an awesome way for my kids to appreciate every day outdoors in a four-season place like Maine.

My kids no longer have a place for the word ‘bored’ in their vocabulary - hours outside with Beth and her teachers have given them the ability to create imaginative play, games and roleplay that have spilled over into their everyday lives. The instructors provide materials, concepts and scenarios that the kids then run wild with, sometimes continuing the play for weeks at a time.

My kids have developed an ability to work things out with their friends in the program under Beth’s unique leadership - she creates an environment that empowers them to figure out solutions for themselves with confidence and creativity. Our kids now often tell me when we’re tempted to mediate that they can figure it out by themselves because they do it every Thursday without us!” - Jenna Breitbarth-Guidi

“Bedrock Play is a true blessing for our homeschooling family! It gives my kids a year-round outdoor experience where they can explore, play, and thrive in nature. The program’s themes are so engaging that my boys often carry their excitement into our homeschool curriculum, sparking creative learning that makes Bedrock Play so much more than just a play-based program. It also fosters a wonderful sense of community, allowing my children to build lasting bonds with the same group of kids over the years. Beth, the owner, is truly exceptional—her calm, easygoing nature and genuine passion for the kids and programming shine through in every detail. Bedrock Play has made it so much easier for me to give my boys the outdoor adventures they crave while enriching our lives in countless ways. We’re so grateful to be part of this incredible community!” - Angela Rexroad
