Summer Camps

We offer summer programs different from any other out there!
Reintroduce your children to the incredible benefits of child-led play.

This is a chance for your child to play like YOU used to, with plenty of time, space and freedom to create a world of their own.  A chance to build forts, get dirty, put on costumes, have a tea party, and cook over a fire, the list is as long as a child's imagination....

At Bedrock Play, "free play" is not squeezed in, between organized, adult-created activities - it is the main event. We believe strongly that play is essential and a child's right. There are foundational skills being developed in play that will serve them for life including greater comfort in their bodies, creative problem solving, a sensory system that is healthy and integrated, enhanced friend-making skills and more. Give your child the gift of outdoor play and we bet they will be asking for more! All our summer camps are grounded in the TimberNook curriculum.

“My 6 year old son loved his time at Timbernook this year. Beth and her team put a ton of care and love into the program and it's such a unique experience for the kids. Highly recommend!!” - Summer Camp Parent

The Bedrock Play Summer Camp Experience

We offer a variety of summer camps with different themes and options for varying age groups. No matter what the group though, they will always have a similar experience which is:

Opening Circle with the campers and facilitators, hours of child-led play,  shared meals  and a Closing Circle.

These classic TimberNook programs are for children who would like to take play to a whole new level through collaborative, creative, and sensory-immersive experiences with friends new and old. We guarantee an experience full of adventures, games, and surprises!

An adult’s presence can influence play. Our staff uses the TimberNook philosophy of “stepping back and tuning in” to minimize adult influence as much as possible. If not interrupted by an adult presence, children will delve deeply into their play experience and are more likely to work things out on their own, which supports their skill development.  Staff are there to step in if needed to offer conflict resolution tools and to act as mediators, working towards a time when kids can independently resolve issues.

Healthy play often involves risk-taking, as it is on this edge that children can make the biggest leaps in their development. Our site offers opportunities for taking reasonable risks, such as tree climbing, campfires, using real tools, and rough and tumble play. Our staff has years of experience in creating a space where kids feel physically and emotionally safe to find their own “just right” challenges and can practice taking the proper steps to create safe boundaries.

Meet the Team

Bedrock Play is the vision of our founder and lead teacher Beth Wilkins. As a parent, educator, and Occupational Therapist, she has a deep appreciation for the power of play in a child’s life. She has been distressed to see how little play she sees in her neighborhood, in schools, and even in OT settings and believes that more exposure to outdoor play could proactively prevent many of the disorders we are seeing in our children today. So she founded Bedrock Play, a place where children can gather for “old fashioned” play, completely outdoors, and with plenty of materials to spark creativity. She is now joined by a team of wonderful teachers and occupational therapists. We also welcome Parent Volunteers as well as Occupational Therapy Field Students. We love our team and think you will too!
