Outdoor OT Groups

In addition to our long-standing outdoor enrichment programs, we are now officially offering Occupational Therapy in the outdoors!

We will partner with the natural environment to support your child in engaging in sensory-rich experiences to address issues with emotional regulation, sensory regulation, transitions, and more.

Open House Event!

Please come and join us at Bedrock Play on Sat June 13 from 9:00 - 11:00am. Children welcome. This is an opportunity to see our beautiful wooded site, meet the staff and play outside. Bring your questions about any of our programs.

This is event is FREE! Registration is required.

Our OT Groups meet outdoors, in all weather, at our Bedrock Play campus in Gorham, ME. They include supported free play time, therapeutic activities specifically designed for your children’s needs, and opening/closing circles. The intent of the group is to support your child in:

  • Interacting and playing with other children

  • Building emotional and sensory regulation skills in order to support your child in their daily life

  • Improving problem solving and conflict resolution

  • Developing more resilience for being outdoors

  • Having better tools for regulation at home and in other environments

  • Learning new play and social skills

How are our OT groups different from our other forest-play programs?

OT groups are specifically designed for children who need additional support in order to regulate their sensory systems, emotions, and to navigate daily lives (eating, school, sleeping, friendship, play, etc.).

  • Children and parents of children in the OT Groups get more dedicated attention to their children’s needs starting with a formal evaluation process, goal setting, check-ins and debriefs with each program.

  • OT groups are much smaller and have a lower staff to student ratio

  • OT groups meet for less time than our school year programs and camps.

  • During OT groups, kids engage in a specific therapeutically-designed activity to work through challenges.

  • In OT Groups, free play is more supported. The therapist and other staff stay close to support your child’s social interactions and ability to initiate and maintain play with peers.

What is an OT Supported Summer Camp?

We are now offering a new summer camp experience for kids who need a little extra help with emotional regulation, sensory regulation, and to engage in social interactions! We will start with a smaller group, all participating in a structured activity to practice these skills. We will then join the Bedrock Summer Camp to play! The staff will stay closer, helping your child practice these skills with their friends as they get to experience the Bedrock Play Summer Camp.

How are these different than Bedrock Summer Camps?

  • OT camps are specifically designed for children who need additional support in order to regulate their sensory systems, emotions, and to navigate daily lives (eating, school, sleeping, friendship, play, etc.).

  • Children and parents of children in the OT Groups get more dedicated attention to their children’s needs starting with a formal evaluation process, goal setting, check-ins and debriefs with each program.

  • OT groups are much smaller and have a lower staff to student ratio

  • OT groups meet for less time than our camps.

  • During OT groups, kids engage in a specific therapeutically-designed activity to work through challenges.

  • In OT camps, free play is more supported. The therapist and other staff stay close to support your child’s social interactions and ability to initiate and maintain play with peers.

Are you interested?

  1. Sign up for a 15 minute consultation and will receive an intake form to fill out. You will then meet with one of our OTs to determine if this program could be a good fit. If it is, you will move forward with an evaluation.

  2. You will go through a formal OT evaluation process for your child:

    • You fill out a screening and assessment form to determine your child’s strengths and areas of need. If you have an evaluation from another therapist from the last year, you can provide this for a reduction in the cost.

    • We will provide a formal report.

    • You will meet with the OT to review the evaluation and collaboratively determine goals that are appropriate and helpful for your child’s daily life

    • You will receive a link to register for the program!

Meet the OT

Hi! I’m Andrea, I’m an outdoor loving occupational therapist who has been working as an OT for 9 years. I have a background in Early Intervention, working with kids birth to three in their home environment, and working at a Special Purpose Private school working with kids with behavioral and mental health challenges. I have a strong belief that the outdoors is the best sensory environment to support children struggling with sensory processing and emotional regulation challenges, and hope to help empower parents to learn the tools to support their kids in regulating. When I’m not working, I love being outside paddling, hiking, biking, skiing, or spending time with family!
